The Cubby is home away from home for our youngest family members to come, grow and blossom. Our youngest children are naturally inquisitive explorers and creators. At The Cubby we provide opportunities for your child to explore, investigate, enjoy and to just be themselves. We take time to discover each child’s rhythms, interests and urges, and use these to develop motivating and fun learning opportunities.
At The Cubby we recognise that children learn through play, and tuakana teina relationships. We provide opportunities for play to be fully explored and extended in a natural context. Through child-initiated experiences children are able to test boundaries, explore friendships and experiment in a safe, respectful nature and resource rich environment. We believe in an environment that is natural, nurturing, a sensory banquet, inspiring, ordered and fun.
Whanaungatanga (relationships) are paramount to everything we do here at My Treehut and The Cubby, and foster our sense of belonging. We highly value these meaningful relationships with our whanau and tamariki, and respect their aspirations and what they bring in their kete (basket of knowledge). Parents and whanau will feel welcomed, supported and involved in their child’s education. We will embrace this knowledge, extending and affirming the connecting links with family and the wider community into our daily programme.
At My Treehut, we value New Zealand as a multi-cultural nation and understand that all children should be given opportunities to develop knowledge and an understanding of the cultural heritages of both partners to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We embrace, respect and model Te Ao Maori.
We follow and teach by the principles of Te Whāriki – New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum. This curriculum is woven throughout our children’s and teachers’ learning journeys. We are a passionate, reflective team of professionals who are striving for excellence. We believe in primary caregiving, each child and their whanau has one teacher who is their main support person creating a harmonious and caring environment, where children, whanau and teachers all feel welcomed and loved.
Respect underlies everything at My Treehut and The Cubby. We believe in respectful care, learning about others, developing empathy, valuing others’ cultures and beliefs, and respecting one another and our environment.
